The recent Helimag survey which provided high quality imagery has indentified numerous new kimberlite targets. Some of these targets have been followed up by collecting loam samples and assesed for indicator minerals. Good quality results have been returned as shown in the Helimag Survey image below.
These anomalies, which may represent buried kimberlites, lie 20 km north of the Eurelia diamondiferous kimberlite field. The Springfield targets were not detected by previous geophysical surveys because they did not have the degree of data resolution to discriminate the subtler magnetic signatures of the buried kimberlites.
These new targets lie north-northwest of the previously located diamondiferous kimberlites at Eurelia. This direction is towards potentially increasing diamond grades according to recent results from the Flinders/Australian Research Council-Linkage research project.
